17th century Andalusian School, "Flight from Egypt"

Oil on canvas, possibly part of a larger original canvas. It shows the scene of the "Flight from Egypt" with the Virgin mounted on a donkey, carrying the Christ Child in her arms with a gentle gesture. Saint Joseph leads the way, pulling the donkey with a short rope. In the background, the city can be seen with a sfumato reminiscent of Italian Mannerist painting. 

It shows losses of the pictorial layer and restorations.
