Brush container, blue and white, Qing dynasty

A porcelain vessel decorated in underglaze blue-on-white enamel. It is cylindrical and stands on three small feet. It is painted with a continuous landscape of mountains and rivers with inhabitants, a pagoda and a small fishing village. In the sky are flying geese and a full moon. The painting is cobalt blue in various shades. It is in very good condition, with wear.  

Provenance: European private collection, France. Acquired by the present owner in 1981 in Toulouse from the private collection of Mr. Gerard Pasquier. A period photograph is shown.
