Carved jade 'phoenix' plaque, Western Han dynasty

A carved yellow jade plaque in the shape of a phoenix with a medallion silhouette. The details are carved in relief and continue on the base, which itself is almost flat. The phoenix has its face in the centre and faces to the left. Above the head is a crest that rises waving, and the wings frame the spiral-ended form. The end is shaped like a tail, and below are the bird's bent legs. The jade is in good condition with patina and traces of red pigment.
