Carved Shousan stone ‘Luohan’ figurine, Republic of China

An exquisite, rich caramel-coloured Shoushan stone carving, depicting a seated ‘Luohan’, with legs bent and arms folded close to the body, sitting relaxed on rocks, accompanied by a mythical beast. The rounded, hairless head is tilted towards the beast as if in conversation. A long robe with embossed decorations covers his body. The expression of both figures is serene, with open eyes and a docile countenance on the animal's side. 

The base has an incised signature and seal ‘林寿煁’. The piece rests on a carved wooden base. With custom-made case.
