Description.
A carved white jade archer's ring (板指). It has a cylindrical body with a hollow interior and thick walls, with a flat, slightly sloping upper rim. It is decorated on the outside with four circular medallions containing traditional characters in relief, set against a background decorated with incised concentric diamond patterns. Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
This type of ring is placed on the thumb of the right hand, which is the thumb of the right hand, to hook the string when practising archery. Over time they have become more decorative than functional. Other jade jewellery for men were: pendants and belts.
