Ceramic and bronze pomegranate-shaped Zun vase, Qing Dynasty

Awarded For. 350 €
Lot 195.
Description.

Glazed ceramic “Gē yáo” of grayish hue covered by an irregular two-color crackle. The shape is completely rounded in the body, and narrows at the neck, rising conically and opening like petals, following the natural shape of a pomegranate.

The ceramic rests on a circular bronze base, which rests on three beautiful feet decorated with spirals. The mouth is covered by a fixed lid, also made of bronze, which delicately imitates the shape of a pomegranate blossom.

The 哥窯 (Geyao) kiln was one of the most recognized throughout the history of Chinese ceramics. The glazed ware known as “Gē yáo” belongs to the celadon category, but can range from shades of gray through cream. The most distinctive feature is the elegant crackle that covers the object.
