Chinese silk painting ‘Ancient Landscape with Characters’, Song dynasty

Painting made with ink and pigments on silk, on a frame also of brocaded silk and paper.
With a circular format, the work shows the beautiful view of the garden and interior of a great palace. Under the shade of large trees, three small characters dressed in traditional clothes walk, while inside the wooden building with large windows, four characters appear to be gathered.
On the lower right side, the signature “李唐” is shown. Li Tang (1050-1130), or Xigu, was an artist born in Heyang, renowned for his landscapes. During the reign of Emperor Huizong, he was awarded one of the highest honors of the Bianjing Court Academy of Painting. His work is present in museums all over the world.
In good condition, with wear due to age. Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) or later.
