Dingyao ‘Butterflies’ porcelain vessel, Song dynasty

This porcelain is modelled and covered with a beautiful white ‘Dingyao’ glaze. It has a square base and a flat profile that widens towards the mouth, which is notable for its lobed rim and elongated leaf-shaped corners. The interior is decorated with beautiful leaf reliefs surrounding the central image of two large butterflies with outstretched wings. Ding kiln, Song dynasty (960-1279) or later.
