Yellow jade carved in the shape of "觀音像" Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, also called Guanyin. The quality of material and craftsmanship is exquisite. It is depicted with realistic image, standing on a double lotus pedestal, holding a vase with ointments. In the back there is a niche of flames that welcomes the goddess. The face is serene and shows Buddha-like features. The robe she wears covers her head and part of her hair, which is long and undecorated. The jade shows patina and is in very good condition for antiquity.
The statue of Guanyin literally means the Bodhisattva who "observes the voices of the people in the world" and is one of the four great ones of Buddhism. He has a dignified and gentle appearance, and often holds a willow purifier in his hand.
