Gilt bronze censer, China, Ming Dynasty, 17th century

Xuande period (1426-1435)

Decorated with reliefs of mythical animals amid waves and clouds around the openwork cover and container - The handles are shaped like lion's heads - The base is a continuous band of lotuses.

Provenance: Christie's - European private collection, acquired between the 1960s.
