Jade carved “Mythical beast”, Qing dynasty

A light-toned jade figure with beautiful amber and reddish flecks. Masterfully carved in the form of a robust mythological beast resting on its hind legs, its head held high and its expression menacing, revealing its large fangs and wide open eyes. The long tail is held at the side of the body. The figure is presented on a fine carved wooden base with carved details of branches and ruyis. Patina from ageing is visible.
