Description.
Light-toned carved jade with slight reddish stains. It shows on a trapezoidal base adorned with incised scrolls and two thin openwork side handles, the image of a majestic phoenix with bent legs facing forward, wings spread and arranged over the body, a sinuous tail and a sharp curved beak.
Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - 8 AD) or later.
