Description.
A magnificent greenish jade seal with reddish flecks. It has a quadrangular base decorated on its outer faces with a pattern of spirals and curved lines. Crowning the piece is the image of a ferocious dragon with two faces and four legs, which meet at chest height. The expression is menacing, with the legs slightly bent, ending in five pointed claws. The face shows large eyes, open jaws with sharp fangs and curled horns. The entire image of the beast is covered in relief detail that adds great texture to the piece. Four incised characters ‘淮阳玉玺’ appear on the base. Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) or later.
