Jade ‘Tiger’ ornament, Shang style

A carved jade ornament, amber or reddish, with a flat surface. It shows the image of a crouching tiger or beast, with its legs bent, head raised and tail curled up, devouring prey in its jaws. The body is decorated with incised and openwork details, executed with great attention to detail, following the archaic models typical of the Shang period.
