Description.
White jade with reddish and golden flecks, carved in the form of an imposing turtle with a thick body covered by a large carapace decorated with incised geometric elements. The head is shown erect, slightly tilted to the side, with its jaws open, revealing its large fangs. The sturdy legs are shown flexed, ending in long, sharp claws holding a large Yuan Bao ‘元宝’. The turtle is an animal widely represented in Chinese culture as a symbol of longevity, strength and protection. With size box. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
