Joaquín Agrasot y Juan (1836 - 1919), born in Orihuela, studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia and was a boarder in Rome, where he met the artists Eduardo Rosales, Casado del Alisal and Mariano Fortuny, who influenced his work. Fortuny's influence is evident in his later works. In 1875 he returned to Spain and was made a full member of the Academy of San Carlos in Valencia and a member of the Academy of San Fernando. Agrasot was a key figure in the realist revival of Valencian painting, regionalist genre scenes and genre scenes, although he also produced nudes, orientalist themes, portraits and religious paintings.
