José María Corchón was a Spanish painter who studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, specializing in still life. In the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1864 in Madrid he had six still lifes that were awarded prizes and for which he obtained a diploma. These works became the property of the Junta de Beneficencia. An example similar to this work is the painting nº P007156 in the Prado Museum catalog, entitled "Still Life of Fruit" and painted around 1852.
