Ni Gengye (20th century) Promotional poster "Qidong Tobacco Company", 1938 - 1939

Publicity poster with card-style annual calendar, called "yuèfènpái" (月份牌) in Chinese, designed by Ni Gengye for the cigarette company "Qidong Tobacco Co., Ltd". The sign at the top (启东烟草股份有限公司) announces the name of the company. On one side (lower left) is the signature and seal of Ni Gengye" (倪耕野). This artist was an advertising painter of the late Qing and early Republic of China who was very active in the 1920s and 1930s. He was characterized by his clear images of beautiful ladies.

It depicts an elegant lady of the period wearing a patterned dress and white gloves. She is standing in a green field with an aeroplane behind her while another enters from the right side. At the bottom is the month card and an assortment of the company's products: Hardemen, Chengmen and Red Queen, etc.

The edges are slightly damaged, although it is in good condition.
