Olive-green glazed 'Dragon' bowl, Northern Song dynasty (960 - 1127)

A brush-cleaning bowl with an olive-green celadon glaze that is thinner at the ends. It is delicately moulded in the form of hexagonal flower petals with a coiled dragon flying among clouds and holding a pearl at the bottom, and inscribed within a lobed cartouche. On the outside between the petals is a pearl. The base has a circular profile and has atifle marks. 

This type of petal shape can be seen on Song dynasty kilns scattered throughout the country. Ceramic wares were used for people's daily needs. The green-glazed wares in China are known as "qingci". They were usually first made in Zhejiang during the Eastern Han dynasty, but date back to the Shang dynasty. 

The piece is in perfect condition with no breakages or restorations.
