Pair of cloisonné candlesticks, Qing dynasty, Qianglong period

Pair of bronze candlesticks decorated with cloisonné enamel. They have a bell-shaped base, which rises to a flat, rounded bulb that holds a large circular tray designed for dripping wax. Above this is an elongated tubular centre crowned by a smaller bulb and a small circular tray, on which is placed an elongated tip into which the candle is inserted later on.
The surface is profusely decorated with scrolls of leaves from which beautiful lotuses blossom against a deep turquoise background. The gilt rims are interspersed with decorative borders of small ruyis and chiselled square scrolls.
