Description.
Pair of white jade plaques, with subtle reddish flecks. Carved in circular format, with lobed edge following the shape of the ruyi clouds that cover the background. In the center are arranged small bats with outstretched wings fluttering among the clouds. It shows patina and is accompanied by custom box.
The terms “fortune” and “bat” are homophones in Mandarin Chinese; this is why we find a widespread representation of this animal in various works throughout the Qing Dynasty.
