Shousan double stone seal ‘Beasts’, 20th century

A carved Shousan stone, golden with reddish flecks. It has a rectangular base, consisting of two square areas joined in the centre; on them are two mythical beasts standing on their hind legs, with a fierce gaze and sharp claws and fangs. Their chests rest on a spiral-pointed arch that is arranged in the centre, above which is a sphere pierced in the centre. The base shows engraved writing, and the seals are incised in the lower area. It shows wear due to ageing.
