Shoushang ‘Mythical Beast’ stone seal, Qing dynasty

A carved Shoushang stone seal, golden in colour with whitish flecks. It has a tall rectangular base, decorated with bas-reliefs of archaic motifs, on which is a relief image of a mythical beast lying on its four bent legs. It has a long curled tail, a sturdy body, sharp claws and a large tilted head with bulging eyes, a wide snout and imposing fangs. The seal is placed on the base, with multiple characters in bas-relief.
