Small glazed porcelain vase ‘Birds’, with Qianlong mark

Description.

A ‘pink family’ porcelain vase with coloured enamel decorations. It has a balustraded profile, with a circular base, rounded shoulders, a short neck and an open mouth.

On a blue background decorated in sgraffito with patterns of auspicious Buddhist symbols and small rouleaux, there are two scenes set in a scroll frame, showing small birds with rich plumage in a beautiful garden full of vegetation. The shoulders are decorated with lace and hanging flowers, and the neck shows a continuous branch with leaves curled into a ring. It shows a four-character mark ‘乾隆年製’ in underglaze blue on a white background and an old label indicating ‘Panama Exposition 1919, Exhibit from Kiangsi China’.
