Description.
A hulu-shaped ceramic vase, glazed in earthy tones with an elegant two-tone crackle glaze. The glaze leaves the lower rim free, revealing the paste colour, and is lighter on the upper part. It is in very good condition.
It is moulded in a simple form that the Song potters were inspired by a gourd and its significance. This model became widespread as a benchmark in later times and has seen variations. The gourd represents immortality and fertility, and in fact some immortal gods are depicted next to this vegetable, to reinforce this idea.
