Description.

An early 18th century tall carved and assembled mahogany wooden case clock with original Thomas Cartwright (1693 - 1741 active) machinery, and brass dial signed "Thos Cartwright / Principis Horos / London". The machinery is in good condition in need of overhaul. Inside are the original pendulum and counterweights. Keyed.

The frame is supported on four ball feet. The exterior is plain with the door decorated with a moulding. The case has four decorative pillars and a crest with three turned balls.

Thomas Cartwright is recorded as having been born in 1679 and apprenticed to Christopher Gould in 1693. He began taking on his own apprentices in 1705 and died in 1741. He worked making clocks and tall case clocks, as one of the finest clockmakers and watchmaker to Queen Anne and George I.
