Description.
Buddha figure made of white jade from Hetian, in one piece. It shows the effigy of "Buddha Maitreya" dressed in a robe, with a voluminous body, round face and an expression of natural joy. He takes on a reclining pose and is surrounded by children. The details of the representation stand out. It is in very good condition.
The Bodhisattva "Maitreya", whose name is a transliteration from Sanskrit, has been designated as the successor of "Sakyamuni Buddha", according to Chinese Buddhism. The Chinese name of the next Buddha is "弥勒菩萨" (Mílè púsà) or "Bodhisattva Maitreya".
