White jade figure ‘Sages on the mountain’, Qing dynasty

Weight: 1180 gCarved white jade, with beautiful reddish and golden flecks. Carved according to the natural morphology of the stone, with rounded edges, it shows in the centre, in bas-relief, a scene in which two wise men are arranged inside a grotto, surrounded by steep rocks and thick trees. At the back, following the scene, a small, solitary deer is shown climbing among the rocks. The stone is set on a finely carved wooden base, which was made to size. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
