Description.
Magnificent carved white jade of a smooth, even, milky hue with subtle ochre flecks. It has a short rectangular foot, on which is placed the body of the same shape, flanked by a curved mouthpiece and an angular handle. The lid has a pyramid-shaped, stepped structure, with four levels and a handle in the shape of a die, located at the top. Both the body and the mouthpiece are decorated with elegant reliefs depicting a calm lake surrounded by high mountains on which a small traditional boat is sailing. The handle has a relief image of the face of a ferocious beast at the base, surrounded by ruyi clouds. It shows patina from the natural passage of time. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
