SPECIAL CHRISTMAS AUCTION, 27TH DECEMBER 2024 - 1ST SESSION: ASIAN ART
Buda de bronce "Sadaksharilokeshvara", Tibet, 19th century
A gilded bronze figure inlaid with turquoise. It shows the deity on an oval lotus throne, with his legs arranged in vajrasana and his body in an upright position, covered with a long dhoti and adorned with fine beaded jewellery such as pendants, bracelets and bangles. His two front hands are joined at chest level in anjalimudra, while the back hands are arranged, arms bent, raised towards the sky in vitarkamudra. The face reflects a serene expression, with narrowed eyes, joined lips and long ears framing the composition. A rectangular carved stone is placed at the third eye or ‘eye of illumination’, followed by a large crown of leaves above the head, with details in relief of plant motifs and small turquoises that contrast with the beautiful gilding that covers the figure.
