Carved jade ‘Gui’ ritual vessel, Han style

Carved jade of a greenish hue, with ochre-coloured flecks. It is in the form of a ritual ‘Gui’ vessel, with a flared foot supporting the flat, rounded body, flanked by two handles from which moveable circular rings hang. It is crowned with a concave lid. The surface is decorated with archaic motifs and taotie masks. It shows patina from ageing and slight defects on the rim.
