SPECIAL CHRISTMAS AUCTION, 27TH DECEMBER 2024 - 1ST SESSION: ASIAN ART
Chinese silk painting ‘Still Lifes’, Qing dynasty
Ink, watercolour and pigments on silk. It shows two elaborate compositions of still lifes with traditional Chinese elements. The first, in the manner of an offering, shows a small altar with fruit, plates, incense burners, vases filled with beautiful flowers and a large glass fish tank in the centre. The second, arranged below, is characterised by a large wooden panel framing small paintings, along with scrolls, a painting element, white chrysanthemums in bloom on bronze vases, and small white jade elements such as seals and a small ruyi sceptre. The chromatic palette and the fine workmanship of the details, which together make up a piece of exquisite quality, are outstanding.
