Doulton & Slaters Patent ‘Pair of quinqués’, 20th century

Two ceramic quinquets. With factory marks and ‘Doulton Slater Patent’ stamp on the underside. The glass chimneys are stamped with the ‘Sun Brand’ mark. In addition to being a painter, Slater was involved in the development of many of the special glazes and techniques, including a process involving the use of lace fabrics printed on the surface of the clay as a decorative technique.
