LIVE AUCTION MARCH 2022 - SECOND SESSION: WESTERN ART
Emilio Frejo Gutierrez (1956) "La Lonja"
Oil on canvas. Signed "E. Frejo Gutierrez" in the lower left corner. Titled and signed on the back.
Lonja de la Seda de Valencia, located in front of the market in the historic center of the city, is one of the most emblematic buildings of the Valencian civil Gothic. It is the perfect frame for a scene where "falleros and falleras" are accompanied by crates of oranges from the orchard, which are emblematic elements for the valencians. In addition, the building is named after the precious silk fabric, which from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century was the engine of the Valencian economy and whose importance is reflected in the richness of the regional dresses.
Size: 114 x 149 cm; 140 x 175 cm (with frame)
In 2011 Emilio Frejo carried out a cleaning and restoration with subsequent varnishing of the painting, as indicated in a certificate that he himself signed on October 20, 2011.
