Jade figurine "Lion Fu", 19th century

Light green and brown jade carved in the shape of a mythological animal. The figure is carved to coincide with the color change of the jade, dividing it into two halves. Fu lions are considered a symbol of protection against bad energies. Their introduction in Chinese art coincided with Buddhism.
