Large standing "Shakyamuni Buddha", Thailand, late 19th century
Bronze with copper alloy and lacquered wooden hands, decorated with gold and red polychrome. This figure depicts the Buddha standing on a lotus base and a triple-stepped pedestal. The hands are in the 'Abhayamudrā' posture, and he wears a robe with the sides of the robe spread out in the form of a fold, and the waist is girded by a belt. The hair is curly and short, and a pointed flame stands out on the head. The face is serene with almond-shaped eyes, a long nose, elongated ears and arched eyebrows. It has a patina and some flaws but is in good condition.
The characteristics of the figure and decoration relate to late 19th-century Thai pieces from the Rattanakosin period (1782 - present).
