Lu Ji 吕纪 (1439 - 1505) "Landscape with cranes".
Ink and pigments on silk. It represents a landscape with a river or lake, a tree, flowers and vegetation, full of herons flying, fishing or resting. The brushstrokes are fine and with intense colors that stand out, such as the red of the flowers and the whites of the vegetation and birds. Landscape painter Lu Ji 吕纪 has a landscape painting style with flowers and birds that convey dynamism. His painting style had a great influence inside and outside the court, and many followers.
On the left side, in the upper corner, is written in ink 文华殿锦衣指挥 吕纪 and a seal.
The painting is in good condition although the fabric has some flaws due to the age of the piece. It is framed in silks and in this has writings made by experts and collectors. Xie Zhiliu, an expert in calligraphy and painting, added a text on the left side with two seals 谢稚 and 稚柳. At the bottom the writing is stamped by Wu Hufan 吴湖帆.
