Pair of giratiorian vases, 19th - 20th century
Bronze decorated with cloisonné enamel. A pair of lidded vases with the outer body, in the form of a lantern, carved with four reticulated panels in the form of tree branches. The neck has dragon-shaped handles and with this broken an enclosed layer in the form of a cylinder. The exterior decoration is on a red background with auspicious elements, lotuses or bats.
The rotating vases were a creation of the Qianlong period for works of great artistic display in porcelain. The main use was to decorate festivities or gifts. In this case, it is a later reinterpretation with decorative intent, symbolizing good luck.
