Red copper with polychrome and gilt details. The decorations are in relief, showing a Buddha's face on the handle, strings, snakes and the lower part is diamond-shaped.
This instrument is a demon-conquering staff. Originally, it was a kind of ancient Indian weapon and is now referred to as one of the magical weapons in Tibetan Buddhism. It is often used by Buddhist tantras to practice the method of subjugation of demons and resentments.
Provenance: Important collection of Tommy Lam, Hong Kong, since 1980.
